This is why eBay is still around

Amazon really does suck, and they do some creepy predatory shit, but I do give them credit for actually thinking long-term rather than short-term, and retail hasn’t been profitable in decades. This predates Amazon.

Also, Sears *was* Amazon before Amazon existed. They had everything they needed to be successful in the modern e-commerce world, but they squandered it and poor management.

Walmart is actually taking Amazon seriously, and they have the advantage of physical stores. It’s sad when you’re rooting for Walmart, a company that’s no angel itself.

Ask the Spanish how much they like British people having several weeks of paid vacation each year.

Literally every country in the top 10 on the quality of life index  would get pissy at you if you tried to tell them they we ren’t capitalist - especially #2 Switzerland, which is possibly more capitalist than the United States.

Amazon is moving along with their physical stores too, though. There’s an Amazon grocery store that just finished construction near me, a few more in Seattle, to say nothing of wholeffoods. Ideally Walmart will step up to the plate as a true competitor so we don’t have a monopoly.

No, but preserving some form of competition, even flawed competition, has merit. Though, I haven’t been inside a Walmart since well before the covid shutdown. They have more naked ass cheeks in there than a strip club, and none of them are ones that you’d pay to see.

Seriously people, buy pants that fit you and wear a goddamn belt, it isn’t hard.

Given how screwed the Spanish economy would be without tourism, most of them do like it or pretend to like it. And yes, some British can be obnoxious, but many tourists are. Because vacation!

As a Floridian I want to say that I love tourists. The taxes they add mean that we have some of the best maintained roads in the U.S. M ost tourist places/countries should look at it from the same perspective.

People in Delaware spend all damn summer complaining about the tourists from New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania, but we have basically no other economy beyond tourism and as a tax/regulatory haven for companies to legally incorporate in. Well, OK, the chemical companies, but that industry has been declining for years.

I hate sitting in the summer traffic as much as the next person, but if people from other places want to come here, d ump their money into our economy , and go home without it, I’m not complaining. As busy as we still are even with COVID, the impact on government finances from even a slight decline in tourist traffic is noticeable.

Of course, we could just have a damn sales tax like everyone else, exempt necessities like food, clothing, and medicine, and maybe even make enough from that to get rid of the income tax. Put it in the law that it can never be more than 50% of the lowest rate in a neighboring state, and we’d still be a low tax shopping destination, just not a tax free one. People would still come.

If anything, making fortunes via banking for nazis and despots might be the ultimate form of capitalism.

It’ s not really savory, but maple syrup helps.

I still think there has to be some way to make it savory.  Almost every other starchy food out there has some sort of savory variant.  But so far, not oatmeal.
